The Body Scan.

This evening at Ebbw Vale Institute we are going to do a body scan. This is a core part of mindfulness practice and something that many have found hugely beneficial. It helps with sleep problems, chronic pain, worry, anxiety and stress reduction, negative thoughts and habitual 'overthinking'.

The physical health benefits include lowered blood pressure, reduced risk of heart disease, a strengthened immune system, increased feeling of confidence, compassion and overall wellbeing.

You don't have to wear special clothing

You don't have to get inside any scanning machine ( it's not that kind of body scan!)

You don't have to say or do anything. It's not a 'group activity' as such.

It is very simple to practice and once you've done it you can make your own variations of it, take as little or as much time as you like with it and do it almost anywhere at almost any time! No one else will notice you're doing it unless you wish to tell them!

You will learn some things about how your body functions.

You will learn some things about how your mind /brain works.

You will learn what stress is and how it differs from anxiety and/or worry.

You will learn how emotions and feelings have direct impact on what is happening in the body, right down to the cellular level and the neural circuitry of the brain.

Many people over many years have reported that this beautiful, simple practice has transformed their lives.

And if you can't make it to EVI this evening, don't worry! We often practice the Body Scan and there will be other opportunities. All are always welcome!
