Connecting with the Universe?

You may sometimes hear it said that Meditation is 'connecting with the energy and divine power of the universe'.

There are, of course, many ways to approach the practice and many ways to describe the experience, and they are not mutually exclusive.

Here is one that best reflects the approach at Equanimity:

Meditation is connecting with your own body, developing an awareness of how your body functions, how your brain and nervous system operates, how thoughts and emotions are processed.

In this sense meditation journeys inwards, connecting with and redefining the sense of self. With continued practice a special kind of peace, kindness, understanding and contentment is revealed and strengthened.

The emphasis is on the practical and precise rather than the allegorical or mystical.
